ZUCK TALKS THE FUTURE

This week, Zuck went on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Did we tune in for all 3 hours? Why yes, yes we did.

Do we maybe need some new hobbies in life? Sure.

But now we can save ya some time. Here’s all the good stuff:

On Meta:

  • Zuck says AR and VR have come a long way, but will probably never truly be as good as being in the real world with people. Still, this doesn’t mean they can’t be super useful though. He cites Zoom as a good example of a service that isn’t as good as real physical interaction, but has still completely changed the future of work.

  • Managing misinformation is hard because not only do you need to flag bad content, but you also need to figure out the poster’s intent. There’s a fine line between someone being honestly wrong online and someone posting fake news with the intent to mislead.

  • He doesn’t want Meta to be the ministry of truth for society, trying to figure out what should be allowed on social media and what shouldn’t. That’s why he created an oversight board, where celebrated experts can advise as an independent body.

On his personal life:

  • Despite his team's AR and VR plans, he still claims to value the real world more than most CEOs in tech. He says he’s a 3 sport varsity athlete (LOL), and actually hates sitting at his desk. He’s constantly moving and taking meetings outside.

  • Zuck says he wakes up every morning and the vibe is, “okay, well, f*ck.” Checking his phone every morning feels like “getting punched in the gut,” because people are always briefing him on the next disaster, press release, or problem that needs his attention. People tend to want to deliver positive news in person, so he just gets hit with a ton of negative content immediately when he wakes up. Brutal.

  • He gave up running as his primary form of exercise because it caused him to overthink. During covid, he took up jujitsu with Rogan’s friend and loves it because there’s no time to think (if ya do you get knocked out.)

For all the flack he gets, man, does the guy have a tough job.

CRYPTO’S $10.5M FACE PALM MOMENT

You know those cringey quotes that say sh*t like, “there are no mistakes in life, just lessons learned?”

Well Crypto.com accidentally paid $10.5M for an expensive a life lesson.

Let me explain.

Last year, Crypto.com meant to give woman a $100 refund, but accidentally typed the woman’s account number into the payment field.

What happened? Instead $100 bucks, she got $10,474,143.

But the best part of this story is that it took the company 7 months to notice that this had even happened. Now, they’re trying to double back and go after the woman.

The problem is, the money’s gone. The woman withdrew her funds faster than ETH plummeting when interest rates go up. She gave her daughter 500K and bought her sister a $1.4 house too.

Now, Crypto.com is taking her to court and demanding that she return the funds.

But while some people zig, she zags. Her strategy: if ya don’t show up to court how are they gonna take your money??

Looks like the she might be on the run now. 😂

Crypto.com’s end of the year employee bonuses are about to get a little lighter.

There's a fundamental flaw in how most people are taught to plan their days. Your day isn't a list of tasks. The key to having great workdays is to set the systems or "atomic habits" for success.

My fellow warriors with cracked iPhone screens, our time has finally come: Apple is launching the iPhone 14 on September 7th. We just gotta hold on for a little longer 💪🏼

Jerome Powell warns that more pain is coming: the Fed is nowhere near done with raising interest rates. What does this mean for us? Slower growth (especially for tech stocks), and more delaying your next mortgage.

Youtube is getting into podcasts - its new site got leaked this week in the US. It doesn’t look like much now, but we love video podcasts, so we gotta keep an eye out.

Peleton’s getting crushed: they reported earnings and it wasn't pretty - losses of $1.2B and drops in revenue and memberships. What are they doing about it? Cutting costs and beefing up distribution. Remember when some buff dude from Peleton would come by and drop off your perfectly assembled/unwrapped bike? Say goodbye to those days, cause now it’s all about self-assembly. They're also partnering with Amazon to sell the bike and offering a bike rental program for $89/month. #SaveCodyRigsby
